[...] Dan Hoy throws a wrench in the works by superimposing late modernity’s true soundtrack: the power ballad. Dan foregoes Kubrick’s direct reference to Zarathustra (via the opening theme from Richard Strauss’ eponymous sound poem) in favor of Bon Jovi and Bonnie Tyler, but the resulting “blend of the sublime and the ridiculous” makes his rendition more properly Nietzschean in spirit.
